Hi there
QUICK INSTALLATION:
- Copy the files from the archive to a directory in your path.
- Now you have two choices, either to put your fq.cfg file in the C:\ directory,
or to specify an environment variable in your config.sys like:
SET FQ=D:\fq
That's it!
Oh, of course there's a third possibility: You could also do without
the colored file highlighting by just putting the fq.cfg file somewhere
else or deleting it... but who would want to do something like that? ;)
To configure the colors in your fq.cfg file you should know these values:
Color: Numeric Value:
GRAY 27
RED 21
GREEN 22
BROWN 23
BLUE 24
MAGENTA 25
CYAN 26
LIGHTRED 31
LIGHTGREEN 32
YELLOW 33
LIGHTBLUE 34
LIGHTMAGENTA 35
LIGHTCYAN 36
WHITE 37
Here are some examples of what you can do with FileQuery/2:
You can create a fq.exe object on your desktop, change the session setting
to not close after execution, and drop you directories on there to get
their sizes and other useful information. Adding arguments like '/-r' to the
object makes sense if you e.g. often copy files from CD-ROMs...
TYPE:
'fq' Initial screen with information about arguments and more...
'q' Well, this is the usual way of handling fq.exe. Edit the fq.cmd file
to adapt this standard command to your needs...
'fq *.ini /s /-r /-h /-s /+a /p'
All files with the extension 'ini' are listed in the tree fq is startet
from to its end, and their writeprotection, hidden and system attributes
are removed. The archive bit will be set for all of them and the screen
will pause after one page.
'fq c:\os2 /-r' or 'fq os2 /-r' when c:\ is the current directory
The size of all files of the entire tree added together will be presented
along with other useful information. The writeprotection of all files
will be removed.
'fq d:\ibmcom /d /+a'
The archive bit will be set for the directory d:\ibmcom itself.
'fq c:'
This scans the entire drive.
'fq c:\'
Basic output about the used diskspace is given.
'fq c:\* /s /f /qs:0'
...is a quite useful thing to find all those possibly garbage 0 byte files.
You'll see that there are many other useful things you can do with FileQuery/2!
If you are missing some feature please just tell me!!
I'm open for any constructive critcism!!!

I think it is really sad that there's a necessity for this, but
it seems like I'm not getting around it:
